These Eyes Have Seen

These eyes have seen an innocent child’s eyes as he clings onto my wet turnout pants as he watches his home burn.

These eyes have seen the fear in a father’s eyes as we pull his twelve year old daughter’s body from a car.

These eyes have seen the look in firefighter’s eyes when one of their brothers doesn’t make it out alive.

These eyes have seen the joy in a mother’s eyes after we delivered her precious baby girl into the world.

These eyes have seen an alive, drunken, mangled man after we pulled him from his car, and the children’s eyes of the mother he just killed.

These eyes have seen endless high school football games, and seen those boys get hurt then jump back up again and play their game.

These eyes have seen buddies battle cancer and survived, and have seen some who have not.

Those eyes that I have seen me have seen me as I strive to do the job I love the most,
Being an explorer, future paramedic.
